Subrata graduated in 1976 from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Kolkata and has trained under Bikas Bhattacharya. He has participated in over 50 Group shows throughout the country and in several art camps. His prominent solo exhibitions have been at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 1992; Lalit Kala Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata in 2005; and Chitramayee State Gallery of Fine Arts, Hyderabad in 2006. Subrata primarily works with acrylic and oils on canvas and is particularly well known for his treatment of light and shadow, and his dreamlike surrealistic imagery. The artist presently works and lives in Kolkata.
